Except afterward, nobody else appeals to me.<\/div>\n
Block shows up weeks later, and I break my one-time-only rule. I won\u2019t fall for his arrogant smile and burly, tattooed build. It\u2019s one last night to get him out of my system. Neither of us wants a relationship. Every wicked thing he does to me feels different – like it could be the real thing.<\/div>\n
When a threat lands on my doorstep, one final night with Block becomes a three-day-weekend. He insists on helping me resolve my problems which only brings us closer together.<\/div>\n

Uncle Mick\u2019s eyes froze on me. \u201cWhat\u2019s going on?\u201d<\/span>

\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/span>

\u201cSomething\u2019s going on.\u201d<\/span>

\u201cNothing is going on.\u201d<\/span>

He set a wine glass in front of me, nodded deeply, and poured a glass of red. \u201cIt\u2019s like that.\u201d<\/span>

I smiled. \u201cIt\u2019s not like anything, but I\u2019ll always take a glass of red wine.\u201d<\/span>

His brows furrowed and he gave the wine glass a pointed look. \u201cWho said this is for you?\u201d<\/span>

I laughed.<\/span>

\u201cAre you driving?\u201d<\/span>

\u201cTook an Uber.\u201d<\/span>

His concerned tone held a hint of demand. \u201cWhy would you do that?\u201d<\/span>

\u201cMy car\u2019s at the shop. Now, can I have my vino?\u201d<\/span>

\u201cYou have boy troubles, yes?\u201d<\/span>

I fought an eye-roll. Block was all man. \u201cNo.\u201d<\/span>

Auntie Stella swept back in from the kitchen with a smile on her face. As she came closer, her smile dimmed.<\/span>

\u201cWhat\u2019s her problem?\u201d She asked Uncle Mick rather than me.<\/span>

Uncle Mick\u2019s eyes cut to me with a look of regret. \u201cShe\u2019s got boy problems.\u201d<\/span>

\u201cI don\u2019t have boy problems.\u201d<\/span>

Uncle Mick looked at Stella and nodded. \u201cBoy problems.\u201d<\/span>

Auntie Stella glanced between us. \u201cShe\u2019s never with a boy long enough to have problems.\u201d<\/span>

\u201cExactly,\u201d I said, snagging the glass of wine and sipping.<\/span>

Auntie Stella closed the distance between us and leaned against the counter. \u201cSpill.\u201d<\/span>

I set the glass down with a sigh. \u201cI went to a Fourth of July party\u2014\u201d<\/span>

Uncle Mick spun around. \u201cNo! You\u2019re not with a biker!\u201d<\/span>

I shook my head. \u201cYou like Gamble.\u201d<\/span>

He turned his head, giving me side-eye. I didn\u2019t know if it was his dark hair and dark eyes, or the amount of life he\u2019d lived, but he did it so much better than anyone else I knew. \u201cHe\u2019s an exception. Only got room to make one exception around here.\u201d<\/span>

I laughed. \u201cYou\u2019re so full of it!\u201d<\/span>

He threw a dish towel over his shoulder. As he headed to the back, he said, \u201cYou can do better. Kick this man to the curb.\u201d<\/span>

Auntie Stella shook her head. \u201cIgnore him. Tell me all about it.\u201d<\/span>

I grinned and gave her the pertinent details. From Block\u2019s physical appearance to how insanely protective he was, and how it all imploded before it ever really began.<\/span>

The bells on the front doors tinkled, but I kept my focus on Stella.<\/span>

She glanced at the patrons and back to me. \u201cSo, tell me more. This man rides a motorcycle, he\u2019s stocky, has no hair, and striking blue eyes\u2026 does he also have beautifully-inked arms?\u201d<\/span>

My head tilted. \u201cYeah, one of them is. Why?\u201d<\/span>

She nodded. \u201cDon\u2019t move, but he looks at you like you\u2019re a work of art, my dear. That\u2019s not something I\u2019d throw away because of your job.\u201d<\/span>

\u201cI got bills, Auntie Stella.\u201d<\/span>

Her stern expression made me brace. \u201cJobs come and go, Heidi. Love is different \u2013 especially good love. The right love for you. No matter what my stubborn mule of a husband says, he\u2019d tell you to hang onto this man, too. Especially if he saw what I just did.\u201d<\/span>

I shook my head. \u201cIt\u2019s entirely too soon for the l-word. However he\u2019s looking at me, it\u2019s lust, not love.\u201d<\/span>

She smiled coyly. \u201cOr better yet, it\u2019s both.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
